Start with a clean vase
Bacteria in the vase is the main reason cut flowers wilt early. Wash the vase with hot soapy water before every new arrangement.
Trim, refresh, repeat
Cut stems at a 45° angle under running water so air can't block the stem, then change the water every two days.
- Strip any leaves that would sit below the waterline.
- Keep flowers away from fruit bowls — ripening fruit speeds wilting.
- Recut stems by 1cm each time you change the water.
